PA Home Improvement Contractors

Last session, my colleagues in the General Assembly passed the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act that requires ALL contractors to register with the state and that registration information to be shared with homeowners. This law was designed to protect consumers from disreputable contractors and to protect legitimate contractors.

After July 1, consumers in Pennsylvania will be able to visit a Web site or call the Attorney General's Office toll-free at 1-888-520-6680 to find out which home improvement contractors in their area are registered. This will be a great tool for homeowners who want to find a contractor in their community who can be trusted with their most precious asset – their home.

If you're a home improvement contractor – or you know someone who is – this new site is the best way to make sure the community knows who can be trusted. I recommend that you register with the state NOW. More information about the law and the registration requirement is available online.
